The Bridgewater Police Service, located at 45 Exhibition Drive, Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, is made up of 40 employees - 25 officers, (three have been seconded to specialized, provincially funded units such as the Street Crime Enforcement Unit, Criminal Intelligence Service NS, and the School Safety Resource Officer program), five auxiliary constables and ten civilian members.

About The Role
Bridgewater Police Service is inviting applications for a responsible individual to fill a part-time Communication Technician position.
This position is responsible for dispatching on-duty patrol officers and completing necessary documentation. The Communication Technician is also responsible for front-line service to the public (telephone and in-person) whether contacting the office for an emergency or a general inquiry.
About You
You have a strong understanding of privacy and confidentiality with the ability to exercise diplomacy and good judgement. You can work independently as well as part of a team and with other outside agencies. With your excellent communication skills, you effectively manage relationships with diverse groups of people and can lead a team of professionals. You are attentive to detail, ensuring accuracy and enjoy working with numbers and details.
Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of a high school diploma. Post-secondary education is preferred. The candidate must be computer literate and comfortable learning and navigating new programs and systems. Although experience in a policing, emergency service, or dispatch environment is preferred, training will be provided.
A high level of tact, diplomacy, the ability to handle sensitive and sometimes heated situations in an appropriate manner combined with a high level of organization, accuracy, and attention to detail in a stressful environment are key qualifications. The successful candidate must also submit to a security clearance.
Hours of Work:
Hours fluctuate based on operational demands. Communication Technicians work 12-hour shifts which include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts. Guaranteed 40 hours every two weeks, entitling candidates to enroll in a benefits package. There is an on-call expectation associated with this position, every other week, Monday to Sunday.
