Part-time Finance Clerk

About the Role

Reporting to the Manager of Finance, the Finance Clerk provides front line service to members of the public including processing cash receipts (billing and collection), issuing service orders, and answering inquiries. This role serves as a back up for the full time Customer Services Representative and the Finance Clerk/Reception positions. 

This position also:

    • Answers customer inquiries and directs to the appropriate department or person if required.
    • Provides backup telephone reception.
    • Maintains dog tax system including issuing and tracking dog tags, posting taxes, and updating information (owner, number of dogs, descriptions).
    • Processes payments received over the counter, through the mail, telepayment, anywhere banking, drop box and Interac for various Town operations.
    • Prepares a daily cash report and bank deposit for submission to the Revenue Officer.
    • Records daily deposits in the banking module of the financial system.
    • Processes, balances, and files mortgage company payments.
    • Produces (enters and posts) miscellaneous invoices and miscellaneous receivables as required, including, but not limited to, bus advertising, Police Record checks, and Bulk Water.

About You

You have a background in bookkeeping, accounting or finance that has given you the technical skills to be comfortable in a municipal finance environment. You understand both Payables and Receivables. You are also a people-person with a strong client service mindset. You like to be helpful be that to a colleague or to a customer. Education:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Post-secondary diploma in a one- or two-year program in Business Administration, Accounting, or another related field is required.

Experience:

  • Previous experience with customer service/reception in an office setting is a strong asset. Municipal experience is preferred.
  • A combination of education and experience may also be considered.

Knowledge:

  • Basic knowledge of finance procedures including procurement, accounts payable, and receivable is an asset.
  • Knowledge of municipal government processes and operations is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of accounting software is an asset. Familiarity with TownSuite is a strong asset.

Terms and Conditions of Employment:

  • Non-union position.
  • Part-time, 20 hrs. per week. Additional hours (up to 35 per week) may be required periodically to backfill during vacation/illness.
  • Operates out of the Town Hall main office (60 Pleasant Street).
  • Business hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm; [8:00 am-4:00 pm July - September].
  • Grade 2, $28.72/hr - $36.93/hr
  • This position is eligible for the Town's defined benefit pension plan.
