ABOUT THE ROLE
The Heritage Interpreter provides visitor services and interprets the Wile Carding Mill site and its collections, conducts tours (inside and out), performs light maintenance, and assists with reception, information services, and gift shop operations. The role delivers public programing, contributes to the success of public events, and participates in annual inventory and collections care projects. Also, records visitor statistics and manages admissions.

QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in museum, art gallery, cultural center or other similar visitor-facing employment or volunteer experience is a strong asset.
- Customer service experience
- Familiar with local culture, including an interest in regions history and heritage
- Public speaking skills
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
- familiarity with computers, including e-mail, internet, Microsoft Office 365 is required.
- Detail oriented
- Self motivated
CERTIFICATION:
- First Aid/CPR (to be provided by employer)
- WHMIS (to be provided by employer)
- Vulnerable sector and child abuse registry checks, as involves work with vulnerable people.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include standing, walking, climbing stairs, crouching, for extended periods. Exposure to wool fibers, dust, heat, and common cleaning fluids. The museum has minimal climate control and can be frequently hot or cold. Occasionally work outside with exposure to heat, humidity, inclement weather. Frequent interruptions and requests for information from the public and meeting daily operational needs requires flexibility, patience, teamwork and good communication skills. Wearing identification, and or period dress as required.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Seasonal, casual position
- $18.75-$20 hourly + vacation pay
- The work schedule requires flexibility, including weekends some holidays and the occasional evenings.
- One shift per week plus vacation coverage from July 1 through mid-August and then full time (35 hours per week) mid-August to the end of September.
- Operates out of the Wile Carding Mill, 242 Victoria Road, Bridgewater.
- Additional hours offsite may arise throughout the year
