About the Role
This unionized position within the Town’s Parks department provides maintenance and upkeep of all parks and green spaces including trails, sports fields, playgrounds, and their facilities as well as the Outdoor Swimming Pool and Brookside Cemetery.

Responsibilities
- Ground maintenance including, but not limited to: mowing; mulching; grass trimming; weeding; pruning; raking; edging; tree falling, limbing and chipping; general shrub & tree care; and landscaping.
- Maintenance of sports fields/turf, including mowing, dragging, top dressing, aerating, edging, over seeding and the application of lime and fertilizer etc.
- Collection, transportation, and disposal of garbage and refuse from locations within the department's scope.
- Assistance with the maintenance of the Brookside Cemetery including grave opening/closings, mowing, raking, seeding and over seeding etc.
- Maintenance of equipment including oil changes, blade sharpening, and small mechanical repairs, etc.
- Performance of all other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- A combination of education and experience may also be considered
Certification:
- Valid class 5 NS drivers license is required.
- Certification in Standard or Emergency First Aid, CPR & AED (required, but may supplied by employer).
- WHMIS. (required, but may be supplied by employer).
- Other related certifications: chain saw safety, traffic safety, confined space, etc. are considered an asset.
Experience:
- Previous experience with landscaping, sports field maintenance, trails maintenance, or related experience is a strong asset.
Terms of Employment
- Wages: $22.66 per hour (on April 1, 2026)
- Status: Unionized (CUPE, Local 1092)
- Hours of Work: 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday, 8:00am- 4:30pm).
- Work is physically demanding, and the incumbent must be capable of meeting these demands including (but not limited to) standing, walking, climbing, crouching/bending, lifting, pushing/pulling, etc.
- Work takes place primarily outdoors, and the incumbent may be exposed to adverse weather conditions including working in the heat/cold and inclement weather .
